Overview
The Custom Replace add-on for Google Docs™ allows users to seamlessly replace text in their documents based on data from a Google Sheet™. This tool is especially useful for bulk text replacements, making it ideal for template customization, data-driven document creation, and repetitive editing tasks.
Installation and Setup
1. Install the Add-On:
- Navigate to the Google Workspace Marketplace™.
- Search for "Custom Replace."
- Click "Install" and follow the prompts to authorize the add-on.
2. Authorize Permissions:
- The add-on requires permissions to access your Google Docs™ and Google Sheets™. Ensure you review and accept these permissions to enable full functionality.

How to Use
1. Open the Add-On:
- In your Google Doc™, go to the top menu and click on `Add-ons`.
- Select `Custom Replace` > `Replace from Sheet`.
2. Provide Spreadsheet Link:
- A prompt will appear asking for the link to your Google Spreadsheet™.
- Enter the link and click "OK."
3. Specify Sheet Name:
- Another prompt will ask for the sheet name. You can leave it blank to default to "Sheet1" or enter a specific sheet name.
4. Execute Replacement:
- The add-on will retrieve the data from the specified Google Sheet™ and perform the replacements in your active Google Doc™.
- You will receive a confirmation message once the process is complete.
Data Format in Google Sheet
Ensure your Google Sheet™ is formatted correctly for the add-on to work:
- Column A: Contains the text to find in the Google Doc™.
- Column B: Contains the text to replace within the Google Doc™.

Troubleshooting
- Invalid Spreadsheet Link: Ensure the link you provide is accessible and correct.
- Sheet Not Found: Verify that the sheet name is accurate and exists in the spreadsheet.
- No Replacements Made: Check that the original text exists in the document and matches the text in Column A of your spreadsheet.
Permissions and Privacy

Uninstalling the Add-On
To uninstall the add-on:
1. In Google Docs™, go to the top menu and click on `Add-ons`.
2. Select `Manage add-ons`.
3. Find `Custom Replace` and click the three-dot menu next to it.
4. Click `Uninstall`.
